Your Almighty Soul Contract!
What if you knew, as a child, what you know now? How might that have changed the course of your life? What choices would you have made differently? What decisions would you have made sooner? Or not at all? What opportunities might you have pursued? What traumas might you have avoided? What relationships would you have nurtured? Or not pursued?
The idea that our life is ‘on purpose’ is a fascinating concept and a thought many of us consider from time to time. Did we pre-design the life we’re living? Do we know the souls of the people currently in our lives and have we shared lifetimes before this one? Are the traumas and tragedies we experience in life by design or are they just ‘bad luck? Do we experience good fortune and easy times randomly? Or is there more meaning to our life events?
The idea that we pre-decide the details of the life we are living is a massive notion to swallow. Why would we have chosen to suffer in the ways we have? Why would we invite certain people into our life, especially the ones that cause us endless angst and drama? Why would some choose to leave this life as a baby, young child, teenager, young adult or midlife? Why are some here with physical limitations, emotional fragilities, moral weaknesses, controlling dispositions, top of their class, struggling to learn, according to society naturally beautiful or plain and homely? Struggling with health or fit in every way? Seemingly kind and gracious, or exhibiting unkind or dangerous behaviour?
It can seem that there are often more questions than answers. While some of us have varying degrees of religious influence, the reality is that religions tell an important story, but it is also an incomplete story.
One thing I know for certain is that nothing is random.
Our destiny doesn’t begin when we are born. Our destiny is determined and agreed before we incarnate as a human. We come here to have an experience with ourselves that is wise and loving. And just like one of those squishy, malleable toys that you toss against a wall to watch as its shape distorts … we squash and splatter when we land! Our mind, body and breath go in different directions, and we begin our human life fragmented, not in the wholeness with which we arrived.
Through the course of our lives, we pull ourselves back together. We may not be conscious of this, but we are just breathing ourselves back together one breath at a time, one moment at a time.
We come from the Divine, the Heavens, the Universe, the Cosmos. We come from energy. And when we land, we arrive as compressed energy that comes together to formulate the experiences we have as joy, sorrow, peace, chaos, creativity, despair, courage, fear, love – whatever energies we’ll need to fulfil the life we’ve chosen.
When our Mind, Body and Breath come together, we are unstoppable – and that is what our life is entirely meant to be about. We arrive in the form of pure love, and it is our job to keep those loving vibrations present in our body throughout our lifetime – even during those times when we feel all is lost, when we feel life is ‘unfair’, when we feel not worthy of what others seem to have. We are made from pure love; therefore, it is impossible for us to lose the ability to love or be loved.
We bring with us a life that our Soul has chosen to live. All of our experiences, joys, tragedies, opportunities, possibilities, challenges, impasses, the people we meet along the way, the family members we have invited to be part of our life journey, the pets we choose or do not choose, the happy, joyful memories, the sorrowful, fearful, painful dramas, the limitations our bodies or mind may have, the talents and creativity we utilise to play out the chapters of our life.
Our Soul has chosen the life we are living, and we are contained in a human body that is ideal to manifest it.
This is Your Soul Contract. A plan that has already been set out for you. Every detail has been determined and logged. Every person who will have any role in your life from significant to casual acquaintance has been decided by your Soul.
YOU designed your life. Every. Single. Detail.
The earth is a realm of duality, which means that sometimes things go right, sometimes things go wrong, and sometimes we face an abyss, unsure which way an experience will lead us. The truth is that there are no right or wrong experiences to living our life, there are only learning experiences to deepen our capacity for self-love and higher awareness.
Our life doesn’t ask that we suffer from all the things we did or did not do. Our life doesn’t wish for us to carry guilt, because at each moment we only act to the best of our abilities in that split second, and then we experience the consequences of our actions. But those consequences are NOT who we are. They are simply stepping stones along the way.
It isn’t just our strengths that are important to our life journey. Our insecurities are essential as well. ‘Fear’ is necessary to some point, because it keeps us from being complacent about life. ‘Judgement’ is important because it keeps us from getting killed when we cross a busy street. Being ‘Angry’ is necessary because it teaches us how to feel passion. Despair is essential at times, because it helps us appreciate the grace of miracles.
We are here for the ‘journey’ – not to ‘overthink’ things in life –
just to walk the journey that our Soul has designed for us.
When we see an infant, we notice they aren’t fully focussing on us yet, but they’re here and they’re starting to reconstruct that squash and splatter! They have left the heavens, and their new world is dense and unclear. Babies are still so close to their ‘source’, and they are so pure and perfect. The movie that will be their life story will contain many surprises. Some lessons will be quick and easy, and others will be lengthy and difficult. Some of their relationships will be loving and supportive. Others will be complex and challenging. There will be times of abundance. There will be times of lack. Every single experience will be essential to fulfilling the life that their Soul has chosen.
So, what happens before we Squash and Splatter?
To simplify this, let’s imagine that we all have a Soul Tribe. We gather with that Soul Tribe while we’re still in the Divine space which we can call Heaven or Universe or Divine Love. It is there where our Soul determines the life into which we will incarnate.
Dr. Sue Morter, bestselling author of ‘The Energy Codes: The 7-Step System to Awaken Your Spirit, Heal Your Body and Live Your Best Life’, refers to this as the ‘Bus Stop Conversation’. She teaches that the soul is emotional energy, or energetic intensity. Our body is the vehicle we choose to travel through the life our Soul designs for us.
Like people gathering at a bus stop, all going somewhere, maybe the same places, maybe different destinations, imagine your Soul is gathering with other Souls who are also in-between life experiences, and all of you are deciding what you want to learn or deepen next.
This is a rather ‘simplified’ version of conversation, and it may sound something like this:
Soul One: “I want to learn about deeper wisdom.”
Soul Two: “I’m going to develop a strong comfort with courage”.
Soul Three: “I want to experience being unconditionally loving and loved.”
Your Soul: “Hmmm … I’m going to have a lot of experiences of waking myself up. I especially want to know my ability to forgive. Yes, I’m choosing a top-level experience of forgiveness. I’m really going for it this time!”
Other Soul: “Wow! That’s intense!”
Another Soul: “How are you going to do that?”
Your Soul: “Well I’m not exactly sure but I do know that one of you is going to have to do something to me that will feel unforgivable.”
The Other Soul: “Oh! How is that going to happen?”
Your Soul: “It will need to be someone I love dearly in that life, and they would have to do something to betray me in an immense way. It might cause my family to become estranged; they might steal my savings and leave me destitute. I might lose my job, my home and become homeless for a while. I may turn to drugs, alcohol or some sort of addiction. Then, after many years of hurt, anger, suffering and not trusting anyone, I will reach way down inside my heart and find a deeper layer of myself than I would have known under any other set of circumstances – and I will learn to forgive them. And I will learn to forgive myself. Who wants to be the person who destroys my life?”
(No other Soul volunteers.)
Your Soul: “Please!”, you plead to your Soul Tribe. “I’ve waited to have this chance to awaken. I’m asking for your help. Will one of you please be with me to learn from this experience?”
After some hesitation, another Soul volunteers. “I’ll do it. I can see how much this means to you. And it will help me with my own mission of self-forgiveness.”
Your Soul: “Thank you, I’m grateful! And I’m moved that you would do this for me. I’ll see you on Earth!”
This gives us a framework from which we can begin to understand the life that we’re living. We can start to look at our life in a new way:
What if I’m not just making the best of this bad situation; there are important lessons for me to learn, essential growth to achieve and this experience is valuable.
What if I actually did create this awful situation to awaken myself to something more about who I really am?
What if, on some higher level, I requested this experience so that I could explore a beautiful, powerful, and magnificent part of me that I wasn’t aware of before?
This is an incredible feeling and an empowering insight!
When we can forgive our perpetrators – or at least see their behaviour in a different way with immediate reactions aside - we can appreciate that they played a role in our ultimate liberation and expanded awareness. We start to realise that, as the Creator of our life, we’re viewing our experiences from an empowered place.
If you aren’t experiencing parts of your life that you wish you had, or something that would have made life easier for you, maybe it’s because you are already powerful enough to create it on your own, and you don’t yet know it.
If something occurred that was painful beyond belief, maybe it was to show you your capacity by forcing you to reach down deeper. Perhaps, you came here to awaken that potential. Maybe you’re here to learn to lead your life with a more open heart.
Once we really allow ourselves to understand the Bus Stop Conversation, we become empowered to work with life in an unanticipated new way. For now? Your job is to start seeing your life as being without problems to survive and react to, and instead to view any ‘problem’ as a project, an element of what you came here to learn, a piece of the mosaic that represents your full life experience.
Though you might feel otherwise at times, nothing about you is ‘broken’. Nothing about you is a mistake or inferior. You’ve come here having agreed to your Soul Contract, and it is, in a sense, signed, sealed and delivered by an Act of Grace.
When we remember that every experience, challenge, opportunity, miracle, obstacle, or possibility is placed in our path with a specific intention, we have a different relationship with who we are and what we experience in life.
When we remember this, then our experiences make a little more sense. The blessings we receive in life and the miracles we find, especially those we don’t expect, start to seem more astounding and ‘on purpose’.
And … we begin to better understand the people who come in and out of our life, and those relationships that will be supportive, challenging, harmonious, hurtful, loving, hateful, nurturing, dismissive, and so on.
Our life experiences do not happen TO us.
Not at all! They happen FOR us.
We Are the Creators of Our Divine Life. We are the architects of our greater wisdom. We are not less fortunate than another. We are not victims of our circumstances We are not living an unfair version of life.
We are following a path that has been designed specifically for us to learn and experience essential wisdom and love – the wisdom and love that our Soul chose. With all of my blessings and joy, and equally all of my challenges, heartbreaks and intense experiences, I know for certain that I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without every single experience I have encountered, faced, learned from and overcome.
There is wisdom in living a human life, and there are sacred lessons in evolving as an essential self in the process. Every trauma, opportunity, heartbreak, joy, despair, happiness, loving moment, mistreated moment, contentment, tragedy, fulfilled prophecy, and incomplete life dream we experience is intended to enrich our souls, to elevate our understanding, raise our vibration spiritually, and generate a pure, loving presence.
Everything about life is intentional, on purpose and we are exactly where we are meant to be at any given point along the way. We are highly spiritual beings who are simply wearing a human costume to learn more and more about the truest and purest form of love. Not the love that we read on greeting cards, or in predictable TV programmes – rather, the love that comes from a place so sacred that it brings tears to our eyes when we meet it.
Our Soul Contract is a treasure map that guides us in finding our way to the worthiness and bravery that will give us clues for how to reach our long coveted and sacred sense of belonging.
